Loop Walks – Coming Soon

loop walks coverLoop Walks is a series of eight poems, each one mapping a walk from memory. The routes range from night-time Dublin to Connemara bogs. Loop because each one, in some sense, starts out from its destination. The ninth and final section is a chorus that brings together the metaphysical concerns of the eight walking sections.

The poems were written as part of a commission for the 2012 Béal Festival. The poems were scored by composer and festival co-organiser David Bremner from a recording of me reading them and performed as the finale of the festival by the vocal group ensembÉal. In his festival programme notes, David described the work as ‘a newly-invented genre of work, polyphonic poetry, scored for speaking chorus’.

David and I decided it would be good to produce a book and CD set with the texts, score and festival performance in one package. The book came came back from the printer yesterday and David also approved the master for the CD. So in a couple of weeks well be ready to go and Loop Walks will be available to buy over at hardPressed poetry. Watch this space for more news.
